George Bridges aka Baron Bridges of Headley MBE was Assistant Political Secretary to the Prime Minister John Major from 1994 to 1997. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1997. In the 2000s he served as Chairman of the Research Department and Campaign Director of the Conservative Party.
He was created a life peer as Baron Bridges of Headley, of Headley Heath in the County of Surrey, on 28 May 2015.
George has a broad experience in communications and campaigning. During his career – which has spanned politics, the media and business – he has advised senior executives and politicians on how best to make their case. For two years he wrote editorials for The Times on politics and domestic issues – ranging from agricultural to healthcare. Before that he worked for Britain’s largest commercial terrestrial broadcaster, helping to set up the country’s digital terrestrial television network.
George Bridges served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union from 17 July 2016 to 14 June 2017.
He currently serves as the Vice-Chair on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Blockchain (APPG Blockchain).
